Welcome

Dear Ministers of Education, school leadership, schools around the world, and our educators and students,

From the savannas of Africa to the fertile Delta of the Nile…

from the rainforests of the Amazon to the Great Wall of China…

We are thrilled to embark on this journey with you.

We embark on this journey so that our solutions for the pressing global challenges are informed by the great lessons and wisdom of our collective past - the 7 Ages of Globalization.

With a shared vision of a more peaceful, prosperous, just, and sustainable world, we explore the seven ages of globalization so that each learner can be a better informed steward of the world, and a global citizen contributing to building the future we want.

Education for Sustainable Development, ESD, is a way of learning and a way of life.

This course builds historical and scientific knowledge while fostering a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of humanity, in history and today. Students are enabled to embrace our rich and complex history and apply the lessons of history to today's world.

Ages of Globalization will be a free and open course, organized into 28 modules and starting in September 2024 for the school year 2024-25. The contents of this course will be relevant across subjects: history, geography, culture, arts, social studies, sciences and beyond. The course will provide guiding lesson plans, teaching aids and cutting-edge Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping tools so students can create a deep understanding of the materials and create new content relevant for their own communities and nations.

The desired learning outcomes will be shared for each topic so that contents can be directly linked to national standards and curricula across countries, with exciting new possibilities to acquire 21st Century skills.

In order to share the history of humanity in the seven ages of globalization, the course is crafted to share video footage from UNESCO Heritage Sites across the world, and live online classes with Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, accompanied by pedagogical tools,  interactive maps and innovative activities for educators and learners around the world.

Welcome to The Ages of Globalization.
